Nights of Azure 2: Bride of the New Moon is a fantasy action RPG developed by Gust and published by Koei Tecmo. The game’s storyline has been described as a “gothic fairy tale”. Alushe Anatoria, the protagonist of the first title, makes a return as a resurrected half-demon, and strives to rescue her childhood friend Liliana who was chosen to become the Bride of Time, a sacrifice to save the world from the evil Moon Queen. Monolith Productions is working on a sequel to Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, the award-winning action-adventure game set in Tolkien’s universe. Titled Middle-earth: Shadow of War, the upcoming game is set between the events in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings and features ranger Talion and wraith Celebrimbor, returning characters from the previous installment. Wielding a new Ring of Power, the two will confront Sauron and his Ringwraiths, and lead massive armies to conquer Mordor.

Cuphead is a run-and-gun action game developed by indie company StudioMDHR Entertainment. Its plot centers around the titular character, Cuphead, fighting increasingly difficult bosses to repay a debt to the devil. The game is notable for being drawn in the style of 1930s cartoons. It features a branching level design, and offers a local co-op, with the second player assuming the role of a similar cartoonish character, Mugman.

The LEGO Ninjago Movie Videogame is an action-adventure title, which like its name suggests is set within the animated film that is coming out on the same date. The game is developed by Traveller’s Tales, the studio responsible for a number of LEGO video game installments in the past.

Players will take on the roles of ninjas Lloyd, Jay, Kai, Cole, Zane, Nya, and Master Wu, and defend their home from the evil Lord Garmadon and his Shark Army. Metroid: Samus Returns is a side-scrolling action platformer developed by MercurySteam and Nintendo for the latter’s 3DS handhelds. It is a remake of the 1991 Game Boy title Metroid II: Return of Samus, and follows the legendary bounty hunter Samus Aran on her mission to exterminate the parasitic Metroid species.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA is an action RPG developed by Nihon Falcom and localized by NIS America for the Western markets. The game comes with dual audio, and includes English and French subtitles.

Like several other Ys games, it begins with the protagonist Adol Christin getting shipwrecked and stranded on a cursed island. Forming a village together with the other shipwrecked passengers, he sets out to unravel the secrets of the cursed isle and the blue-haired maiden Dana who haunts his dreams.

Destiny 2 is a multiplayer first-person shooter with RPG elements developed by Bungie and published by Activision. The sequel takes place one year after the events in the Destiny: Rise of Iron. The 2017 version of Yakuza Kiwami is a full remake of the very first title in Sega’s long-lived Yakuza series. The game runs in 1080p and at 60 FPS, and features re-recorded audio by the original Japanese voice actors. Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is an action-adventure and psychological horror game developed by Ninja Theory. It is self-funded by the studio, and is described as an “independent AAA” title. Hellblade is expected to offer around 7 to 9 hours of gameplay.

Fortnite is a co-op survival game developed by People Can Fly and Epic Games, and published by Gearbox. After an apocalypse that made 98% of the world’s population vanish and unleashed hordes of monsters, the remaining Heroes have to band together and scavenge for items, build shelter, and craft weapons and traps to survive.

Valkyria Revolution is an action RPG developed by Media.Vision and published by Sega. A spin-off of the main Valkyria Chronicles series, the game shares similar themes but takes place in a different universe, portraying war between two vastly different nations during the European industrial revolution. The battle system is also changed from a turn-based to a hybrid one, with faster-paced, real-time combat.

Cave Story is a metroidvania-style 2D action platformer originally developed by Daisuke Amaya for the PC back in 2004, and later ported to numerous other platforms by Nicalis. The game follows an amnesiac protagonist who wakes up in a cave and becomes embroiled in a conflict between its inhabitants and a mad Doctor trying to conquer the world.

Everspace is a 3D space shooter developed by indie studio Rockfish Games, to whom this is a debut title. The game is said to feature roguelike elements and a non-linear storyline. Running on Unreal Engine 4, it boasts AAA-tier visuals and VR support, with 30 fps at full HD on Xbox One, and the requisite 90 FPS on the Oculus.

Samurai Warriors: Spirit of Sanada is a hack-and-slash game developed by Omega Force and published by Koei Tecmo. Set in Sengoku-era Japan, it follows the titular Sanada Clan in their meteoric rise from lowly vassals to powerful lords. The clan’s legend begins with patriarch Masayuki Sanada, a much-requested character who makes a debut in the series. The story then switches to fan-favorite Yukimura Sanada, following his journey from boyhood to becoming a legendary warrior.

Akiba’s Beat is an action RPG developed by Japanese studio Acquire and published by Marvelous USA (XSEED Games) in North America. In this third title from the Akiba series, players take control of Asahi Tachibana, a NEET who becomes trapped in a day-long time loop along with the other main characters. The game puts a fantastical spin on the Tokyo’s Akihabara ward, with real-life landscapes meshing with surreal “Delusionscapes”.

Unlike its predecessors, Akiba’s Beat plays more like a typical JRPG, with a four-member party taking on enemies (“deluseons”) using a variety of physical and magical skills. Characters can also receive passive boosts (such as halved SP consumption) via the in-game trading card system.
