The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame is an open-world action-adventure title, which like its predecessor is developed by TT Games and published by Warner Bros. Like the name suggests, it is based on The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part and is slated two weeks after the film’s release.

Similarly to the first installment, The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame is played from a third-person perspective, with the player taking control of returning and new characters. The game is to feature cutscenes from the film to accompany missions.

Far Cry: New Dawn is an open-world first-person shooter from Ubisoft. It is a spin-off of the main Far Cry series, and a sequel to Far Cry 5. Set 17 years after the events in the latter, it takes place in a post-apocalyptic version of Hope County that is recovering from a nuclear catastrophe.

Darksiders III is a hack-and-slash action-adventure game developed by Gunfire Games and published by THQ Nordic. The upcoming title’s protagonist is Fury, the most unpredictable and enigmatic of the Four Horsemen. Tasked by the Charred Council to restore balance to the world, this whip-wielding mage sets out on a quest to destroy the Seven Deadly Sins and their degenerated servants that have overrun the Earth.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is an action-adventure game developed by Rockstar Games. Like its award-winning predecessor, it is set in the Old West, and features an open world the player can roam freely on horseback or on foot. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is the eleventh main installment in Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series. This time the players journey to Ancient Greece during the Peloponnesian War, a time well before the Assassin Brotherhood was formed in Origins, and take on the role of a Spartan sentenced to death by their family. While there is no Brotherhood, players can still learn abilities from the Assassin skill tree, the other two being Warrior and Hunter, and enjoy a similar playstyle.

In something of a departure from the previous titles, there is a choice between male and female playable protagonists, Alexios and Kassandra. Furthermore, the game offers multiple endings, and the players are free to choose their own path through 30 hours of branching dialogue. There also are romantic options, another first for the franchise. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey also promises massive battles with hundreds of soldiers on the field, sailing and naval combat, underwater exploration, and all-in-all a rich and dynamic open-world experience.

Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise is an action-adventure RPG from Sega. Like its title suggests, the game is based on the famous manga series Fist of the North Star written by Buronson and illustrated by Tetsuo Hara – albeit set in an alternate universe rather than canon.

Players step into the shoes of Kenshiro, a practitioner of the Hokuto Shinken fighting style, and set out into the post-apocalyptic wasteland that Earth was turned into by a nuclear war in search of his lost love Yuria. The gameplay is said to resemble that of Sega’s Yakuza series, with side missions and minigames found in the dilapidated city of Eden providing an occasional break from beating up thugs.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the third entry in the reboot series developed by Eidos Montréal and Crystal Dynamics, and published by Square Enix. Marvel’s Spider-Man is an upcoming action-adventure game developed by Insomniac Games, for whom it will be the first licensed title. It is played from the third-person perspective, and is set in an open-world, modern day New York.

Rather than explore his origin story again, Marvel’s Spider-Man shows Peter Parker as a confident hero with years’ worth of experience under his belt. It tells an original story – not something you’ve seen in the movies before – and has Spider-Man facing the biggest threat in his crime fighting career yet. After taking down Kingpin, he now has to deal with Mr. Negative and his gang of Inner Demons, who attempt to exploit the power vacuum in the city’s underworld.

Following the success of Yakuza Kiwami, the HD remake of the original Yakuza (2006), Sega is gearing up to release a similarly remade Yakuza 2 – titled predictably Yakuza Kiwami 2.

Much like its predecessor, the upcoming game runs on Sega’s Dragon Engine, and features completely remade visuals of the characters, as well as seamless maps of the Osaka and Tokyo areas the story takes place in. Voice lines and cutscenes have also been re-recorded, any inconsistencies in the script have been smoothed over, and there are challenging mini-games that hadn’t been present in the original title.

Shenmue I & II follows the story of a teenage jujitsu artist, Ryo Hazuki, who upon returning to his father’s dojo witnesses his murder at the hands of a Chinese man, Lan Di. Ryo sets out on a path of revenge, first gathering information around his native town of Yokosuka, then, in the second installment, crossing the sea in search of his farther’s killer.

Shenmue I & II is coming to modern consoles and the PC not as full remakes, but as more straightforward ports, albeit bringing a number of improvements over the Dreamcast classics. These include the option for the original Japanese audio, a choice between modern and classic controls, updated user interface, and adjustable screen resolution on PC. On both consoles, the games are rendered in HD resolution, and locked to 30 FPS due to limitations of the game engine.

We Happy Few is a survival horror game developed by indie studio Compulsion Games and published by Gearbox. Taking place in a dystopian, retrofuturistic 1960s England, the game puts the player into the shoes of three “moderately terrible” people who seek to escape the fictional town of Wellington Wells and its perpetually drugged-out and cheerful inhabitants.

While originally intended as a small, Kickstarter-funded title, the game has since then grown in scope, and will now be getting a worldwide release digitally and through retail channels. Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion is a family-friendly action-adventure game from Outright Games and Climax Games. Like its name suggests, the upcoming game is based on the Cartoon Network series, and features fan-favorite characters Finn, Jake, BMO, and Marceline. The Land of Ooo is underwater, and it’s up to Finn and Jake to set sail on their boat, Jeff, and explore dangerous waters, search for clues, interrogate pirates, and fight baddies in a turn-based combat system.

LEGO Incredibles is a Lego-themed action-adventure game developed by Traveller’s Tales and published by Warner Bros. Players take control of the Parr family of superheroes, utilizing their unique abilities to fight crime, defeat supervillains, and build enormous Lego structures.

Harvest Moon: Light of Hope is a farming simulation and role-playing game developed by Natsume Inc and published by Rising Star Games in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the series. To reiterate, Natsume Inc was only the publisher of the series, but thanks to owning the rights to the name went on to develop their own Harvest Moon games, while the original developer, Marvelous, now uses the name Story of Seasons.

The latest game puts you into the shoes of a young man or woman, who is stranded in a small harbor town after a monsoon damaged their ship. They now have to make friends with the villagers, tend livestock and crops, and gather materials to rebuild the villagers’ homes as well as the town’s lighthouse.

Detroit: Become Human is an action-adventure game developed by Quantic Dream and published by Sony exclusively for their PS4 console. It features three playable characters – all of them sentient androids – and their ultimate fate depends on the choices the player makes throughout the game.

Conan: Exiles is an open-world survival game set in the universe of Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian. Developed by Funcom, it thrusts the player into a harsh and unforgiving prehistoric wasteland, where the only way for the titular exile to survive is fight and build their way to power.
