Shadow Warrior 2 is an upcoming sequel to the Flying Wild Hog’s 2013 first-person shooter. It takes place five years after the events in the first game, and once again puts the players into the shoes of wisecracking ninja Lo Wang. The sequel is less linear and some level elements are procedurally-generated. Shadow Warrior 2 also boasts over 70 different weapons which can be augmented and leveled up by killing enemies. Enemies can now be dismembered and have various body parts blown off thanks to the new procedural damage system.

Like its predecessor, the game has a single-player story mode, the main difference being that it is now possible to revisit previous missions. New to the game is a 4-player co-op which allows four people to enjoy the campaign together. Each player will experience the story as Lo Wang, and see other participants as anonymous mercenaries.

Gears of War 4 is a third-person shooter developed by Microsoft-owned The Coalition studio. The game takes place on the planet of Sera, 25 years after the Imulsion Countermeasure Weapon was used to great effect. The remainder of the population now lives in walled-of cities, excluding the Outsiders which raid the COG territories for resources. Gears of War 4 follows a new protagonist, JD Fenix (the son of Marcus Fenix and Anya Stroud) who, alongside his comrades Delmont “Del” Walker and Kait Diaz, has to deal with a new threat to humanity.

The fourth main Gears of War installment features overhauled cover mechanics and several new weapons. There is a two-player co-op where the second player can select either Kait or Del and play online or via split-screen. The game also offers competitive multiplayer at 60 FPS (the campaign runs at 30) with dedicated severs and new modes.

Mafia III is an open-world action-adventure game developed by Hangar 13 and published by 2K Games. It follows a new protagonist, Lincoln Clay, and takes place in 1968 New Bordeaux (a fictional version of New Orleans). After returning from the Vietnam War, Lincoln rejoins the black mob, only to have his comrades slaughtered by the Italian mafia. A sole survivor, he sets out to get revenge and build his own criminal empire.

Mafia III allows for different approaches to completing missions, such as going in with guns blazing, or using stealth. The game features a cover system, executions, and melee combat. Players can also roam the game’s world freely, and take over locations operated by the Italian mob.

Forza Horizon 3 is an open-world racing game developed by Playground Games and published by Microsoft. This time the Horizon Festival takes you to Australia, where you’ll be able to tear through roads, beaches, rainforests, and the dusty outback while listening to one of the eight radio stations or your own music collection on OneDrive.

The game has an impressive total of 350 Forzavista-enabled cars, and a map twice as large as that of its predecessor. Horizon 3 also offers more customization including widebody kits, vanity licence plates, tire lettering, and even horn sounds. FIFA 17 is the latest soccer title from the experienced sports game developer EA Canada. It features significant changes and improvements over its predecessor, first and foremost being the switch from Ignite to the more advanced Frostbite graphics engine. Another big addition is The Journey mode, in which the player assumes the role of Premier League’s next rising star, Alex Hunter. While it plays just like the Be A Pro mode on the field, there also are scripted events with multiple dialogue options.

NASCAR Heat Evolution is a racing game developed by Monster Games and published by Dusenberry Martin Racing (DMR) for current-gen consoles and Windows. It includes all 23 tracks from the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, as well as 43 drivers from the most popular race teams. God Eater 2: Rage Burst is an enhanced version of the 2013 action RPG God Eater 2, developed by Japanese studio Shift and published by Namco Bandai in the West. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic world where gigantic monsters called Aragami seek to devour humanity. Only elite warriors called God Eaters can stand up to the threat by using God Arcs – weapons infused with Oracle Cells taken from Aragami themselves.

Attack on Titan is an upcoming action game based on a popular Japanese manga and anime series of the same name. It is developed by Omega Force and published by Koei Tecmo. While the game originally only launched on PlayStation consoles in Japan, the Western release will also include Xbox One and Windows (Steam) versions.

Attack on Titan features the key moments and characters from the anime, and offers some additional content as well. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is an upcoming cyberpunk-themed action RPG developed by Eidos Montreal. Set two years after the events of Human Revolution, it follows the same protagonist Adam Jensen, who is now working for an anti-terrorist organization called Task Force 29.

The game is fundamentally similar to its predecessor, allowing different approaches to achieve your goals and featuring mechanics like hacking and conversation battles. There are new augmentations, weapons, and ammo types available. In addition, Mankind Divided is said to have more verticality and give the player more freedom of movement than before.

No Man’s Sky is a space adventure game developed by indie studio Hello Games and published by Sony (PS4) and iam8bit (PC). It gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “open world”, featuring an effectively infinite, procedurally-generated universe with billions of star systems. Players can explore the galaxy on their spaceship, land on planets, discover new forms of flora and fauna, and fight or trade with various NPC factions. The ultimate goal is journeying towards the center of the galaxy, but the increasingly hostile environments will require upgrades to the player’s ship, space suit, and multi-tool.

As all the planets are generated on-the-fly, the game can be played offline. However, No Man’s Sky does have some multiplayer elements, such as crediting the first player to discover a certain planet or a lifeform.

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a LEGO-themed action-adventure game developed by TT Games and published by Warner Bros for all major gaming platforms. While mostly based on the eponymous movie, it also includes content which covers the events between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.

Mighty No. 9 is a side-scrolling platformer developed by Inti Creates and Keiji Inafune’s Comcept. Touted as a spiritual successor to the Mega Man franchise, the game raised $3.8 million on Kickstarter and was developed with significant input from the Beckers (a pun on the protagonist’s name). According to the developers, they intend to bring the best elements of the classic 8- and 16-bit era titles to the modern gaming platforms.

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is an upcoming action-adventure game developed by EA DICE. It is a reboot of the 2008’s title Mirror’s Edge, and features the same protagonist, Faith, who rebels against the totalitarian government in the futuristic City of Glass.

The changes in Catalyst go beyond next-gen graphics. The game is now open-world (and without loading screens to boot), has more freedom of traversal, and offers multiple paths of reaching your destination. The combat system has also been overhauled, focusing on melee attacks and parkour movements, and removing the usage of guns entirely. In addition, Faith actually gets character development, going from a troubled young woman to a fierce heroine.

Total War: Warhammer is a strategy game developed by Creative Assembly and published by Sega for Windows, Linux, and OS X. Much like the previous games in the series, it combines turn-based strategy and resource management with real-time battles. However, it is also the first Total War title to feature a fantasy setting instead of a historical one. Homefront: The Revolution is an open-world, first-person shooter developed by Dambuster Studios and published by Deep Silver. It is a follow-up to the 2011 title Homefront, which centers around resistance fighters in Korea-occupied North America. The sequel takes place four years after the events of the original game, features a new protagonist, and is set in a dystopian, near-future version of Philadelphia.

DOOM is a reboot of the classic first-person shooter series by id Software. The new installment targets 1080p at 60 FPS on the consoles, with higher resolutions available on the PC (FPS is still locked at 60). The game features a large variety of weapons, including classics such as the chainsaw or the super shotgun. The new combat system encourages players to keep pushing forward, as enemies drop ammo and health packs when killed.
