Far Cry 3 is an upcoming open-world FPS game from Ubisoft. Like the first game in the series, FC3 takes place on a tropical island. You play as Jason Brody, a tourist stranded on a remote island chain inhabited by violent (and often insane) locals. Your goal is to survive, find your friends, and escape the tropical hell.

In addition to the single-player campaign, Far Cry 3 features team-based multiplayer modes such as Domination and Firestorm. Like its predecessors, the game also offers a map editor for both PC and the consoles.

IO Interactive is currently working on the fifth installment of Hitman for Windows and consoles. Titled Hitman: Absolution, the game mixes familiar stealth mechanics with new gameplay features like improvised weapons and “Instinct Mode”. The latter allows the player to spot enemies through walls and see their patrol paths.

As for the story, it is supposed to be quite a bit more personal than that of the previous Hitman titles. Betrayed by people he trusted, Agent 47 is on the run and in search for answers. The game’s lead producer says this will let the players learn more about the protagonist’s character as he makes his own decisions.

Black Ops 2 is an upcoming FPS from the ever-popular Call of Duty series. It is a direct sequel to the original Black Ops. The single-player campaign features two different timelines: the late 1980’s with Alex Mason as the protagonist, and year 2025 where you play as his son, David Mason. Most of the story takes place during the latter timeline, where United States and China are locked in a conflict over rare earth elements.

BO2 introduces a number of features previously unseen in any Call of Duty game. Perhaps the biggest addition is the branching storyline: your choices and performance actually affect the ending of the game, and even the conclusion of the second Cold War. There’s also a new type of mission called Strike Force, where you have to achieve various objectives using a limited amount of units (that you can switch between at will). It goes without saying that the battlefield itself looks quite different in the future, with unmanned combat drones, airships, and even robots fighting alongside regular soldiers.

EA’s new Need for Speed: Most Wanted is a reboot of the 2005 game of the same title. It shares many features with its predecessor, including a Blacklist of racers and cop chases. The game has an open-world environment; for example, the players can choose their own routes from start to finish during races, and there are supercars hidden in secret locations around the city to discover.

The multiplayer aspect of the game is also updated. Autolog 2 leaderboards compare your achievements in both single player and multiplayer modes. Perhaps the most interesting addition is the CloudCompete system, which lets you switch between different platforms without losing your progress in Need for Speed: Most Wanted.

Assassin’s Creed III is the next installment in the popular action game franchise. It is said to conclude the story of Desmond Miles, who once again enters the Animus to experience the life of his ancestor. This time he’s sent back to live as Connor Kenway, a half-English, half-Mohawk assassin who fought in the the American Revolutionary War. Connor uses a variety of weapons like a tomahawk, knife, fintlock pistols, and, of course, the signature Hidden Blade.

The game runs on a new graphics engine, resulting in better visuals and allowing Ubisoft to incorporate seasonal weather changes into the game. MoH: Warfighter is an upcoming sequel to the 2010 Medal of Honor game. It uses an improved Frostbite 2 graphics engine and features additions like Dynamic Door Breach and destructible environments. The game is developed with help from actual Tier 1 operators and includes real world locations, making it one of the most authentic first-person shooters. The multiplayer gives you a selection off 6 classes and twelve factions, plus several different game modes to choose from.

007 Legends is a multiplatform action-adventure game which combines stories from 6 James Bond movies starting with Moonraker (1979) and ending with the upcoming Skyfall (2012). The storylines from older movies are adapted to a modern-day setting, and James Bond is voiced by Daniel Craig throughout the game.

This isn’t the first James Bond game from Eurocom developers. GoldenEye 007: Reloaded, which released for Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms last year, received mostly positive reviews from the critics. Dishonored is a multi-platform action game set in a steampunk fantasy world. It is developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda. The game follows Corvo Atano, an ex-bodyguard who was framed by the Lord Regent for the murder of the Empress. Corvo possesses various combat skills as well as supernatural powers, which he employs to get revenge on the usurper of the throne.

Dishonored features an open world which you can explore at your leisure, although most of the game takes part in the industrial city of Dunwall. The game uses a first-person perspective. Its combat system places an emphasis on stealth and using the environment to your advantage. One example given by the developers is Corvo using his magic powers to freeze time, throwing a bunch of objects to distract the guards, and then running away in the opposite direction.

NBA 2K13 is an upcoming basketball simulator from 2K Sports. It is available in two editions: regular and Dynasty. The game’s cover features Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin, and Derrick Rose.

The unexpectedly successful and highly entertaining shooter Borderlands is getting a sequel this September. Guild Wars 2 is a highly anticipated MMORPG from ArenaNet. Similarly to the original game, GW2 offers an engaging storyline, no grind while leveling up, and competitive PvP. The biggest addition in the sequel is a persistent world, making Guild Wars 2 a true MMO.

Sleeping Dogs (previously known as True Crime: Hong Kong) is an open-world action game developed by United Front Games and Square Enix London, and published by Square Enix. You can think of it as GTA set in Hong Kong: there’s gunfights, street races, and melee combat. The latter is a lot more complex than in Grand Theft Auto series, and is said to borrow from Batman: Arkham City. Players can perform badass martial arts moves, and use the environment to their advantage. Furthermore, it is possible to enter bullet time when shooting, and destroy your enemies in action movie style.

The game puts you into the shoes of Wei Shen, a cop attempting to infiltrate the Triads. In addition to the dramatic storyline there’s lots of side missions and other activities for you to take part in, such as street races, gambling, and even fight clubs.

Darksiders II is a multiplatform action-adventure game developed by Vigil Games and published by THQ. This Darksiders sequel takes place during the events of the first game, but puts you in the role of a different Horseman of the Apocalypse – Death. The Horseman sets out to prove the innocence of his brother, War, and believes he can accomplish this by resurrecting the mankind.

The game features a number of improvements over its predecessor. For one, the world of Darksiders II is twice the size of the original. Some RPG elements are introduced, such as skill trees and loot drops. DII still lacks a multiplayer mode, however.

Funcom’s upcoming MMORPG title – The Secret World – might have some tough competition in the form of ArenaNet’s Guild Wars 2, but the game has plenty of unique features to offer. TSW is set in a twisted version of the modern world where every conspiracy theory and urban legend is true, and secret societies (the Illuminati, the Dragon, and the Templars) rule from the shadows.

The game has no classes or levels, allowing you to freely choose from ~500 abilities as well as many different melee and ranged weapons. Players can also pick one of the “deck templates”, each of which contains 7 active and 7 passive abilities that complement each other and create an effective build. In other words, new players will be able to start immediately with a pre-made build, while experienced players will be able to customize their character as they please.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is an upcoming cover-based shooter game from Ubisoft. It is the fourth title in the series and takes place further in the future than the previous installments. Naturally, this means that more advanced military technologies are available, such as the new Optical Camo system which makes you harder to see when activated. The players also have customized weapons and controllable drones at their disposal.

The single-player campaign of GRFS will take you to Asia, Middle East, Africa, and other regions. Max Payne 3 is the first game in the series to be developed by Rockstar. It takes place 8 years after the second one, with the titular protagonist working for a wealthy family in São Paulo, Brazil. According to game producer Sam Houser, Max is “more world-weary and cynical than ever”, and has apparently developed a drinking problem. Despite the new developer, Max Payne 3 retains some of the classic gameplay features seen in the previous installments, such as bullet time mode, shoot-dodging, and dual-wielding. The graphic novel storytelling sequences are changed, however, and now use in-game footage. Max Payne 3 also includes a multiplayer mode for the first time in the franchise.

Sniper Elite V2 is a remake of the 2005 game by the British Rebellion studio. It is a tactical shooter where the players assume the role of Karl Fairburne, an American sniper tasked with eliminating or capturing the German scientists working on the V-2 missile program during the World War II.

TERA (full name “The Exiled Realm of Arborea”) is a Korean MMORPG that is being published in the United States by En Masse Entertainment, and in Europe by Frogster Interactive Pictures. It is a promising game with a number of interesting features: a combat system reminiscent of action games (cross-hair aiming, dodging, and blocking), an intricate political structure, Unreal Engine 3 graphics, and more.

The game offers 7 distinct races and 8 classes to choose from. Significant character customization is offered, both during character creation, and later on in game through armor dyes and remodeling. Besides appearance, players can further customize the abilities of their character by equipping Glyphs (which modify skills in different ways) and socketing crystals in armor and weapons in order to boost their stats.
