Control Box Art

This game was released on August 27, 2019 and is no longer available to pre-order. Any incentives that were offered are listed below.

Control is a third-person action-adventure title developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by 505 Games. The game centers around a secret government agency – the Federal Bureau of Control – that deals with supernatural threats, and takes place entirely within a massive skyscraper that houses its headquarters.

The players take on the role of Jesse Faden, who is put in charge of the Bureau right after the previous Director is killed. Imbued with supernatural abilities and wielding the Director’s transforming weapon, she must face an otherworldly force known as the Hiss and retake control.

Pre-ordering Control for any platform nets you the Tactical Response Gear (an outfit for Jesse) and a Crafting Resources Pack (a supply of resources). Both are exclusives that won’t be available for purchase post-launch.

Additional bonuses are available exclusively with digital pre-orders via PSN:

There is also platform-exclusive content that will be available on launch day for PlayStation 4 alone:

  • Rare Player Mod: used to upgrade Jesse’s supernatural abilities in the game
  • Astral Dive suit: a bonus outfit for Jesse
  • 2 static themes: “The Black Rock Quarry” and “The Explorer”

These are the same whether you get the boxed or digital version.

Retail Deluxe Edition

The Retail Deluxe Edition includes the base version of Control in exclusive Futurepak metal packaging as well as 5 art cards. Naturally, PlayStation 4 customers get the aforementioned launch-day content on top of that. This edition is only available for consoles, and in the US is exclusive to Best Buy.

Digital Deluxe Edition ($79.99)

Control - Digital Deluxe Edition

Lastly, the PSN-exclusive Digital Deluxe Edition adds an exclusive side-mission “Isolation” and two future expansion packs – “The Foundation” and “AWE” – on top of everything listed so far. Each expansion will add new story content, side missions, weapons, and mods. While this edition is only available for the PS4, you will of course be able to purchase the expansions separately on other platforms once they’re released.

Control will be out on August 27, 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The digital-only PC release will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store for 12 months, following which it will presumably find its way to Steam and other digital marketplaces.
