Mighty No. 9 Box Art

This game was released on June 21, 2016 and is no longer available to pre-order. Any incentives that were offered are listed below.

Mighty No. 9 is a side-scrolling platformer developed by Inti Creates and Keiji Inafune’s Comcept. Touted as a spiritual successor to the Mega Man franchise, the game raised $3.8 million on Kickstarter and was developed with significant input from the Beckers (a pun on the protagonist’s name). According to the developers, they intend to bring the best elements of the classic 8- and 16-bit era titles to the modern gaming platforms.

PlayStation owners will be happy to learn that Mighty No. 9 features Cross-Buy across PS4, PS3 and PS Vita. The game is 3D-enabled on the 3DS, and supports Wii U’s GamePad. The system requirements for the PC version have also been announced, and can be found on the official website.

Pre-order bonuses

Retro Hero DLC

Pre-order Mighty No. 9 anywhere to get the Retro Hero DLC, which grants a Retro Hero Mode featuring 8-bit style character skin, sound effects, and instant access to an appropriately difficult one-hit death mode mode. Incidentally, a “slightly different” mode is available to all players, but it has to be unlocked first.

Retail version

Mighty No 9 Retail Edition

Boxed versions of Mighty No. 9 are currently available for Xbox One, Wii U, and PS4. They all come with Ray DLC, a double-sided poster, and a 30+ page art book. The official FAQ does state that there will be a retail package release on PC as well; the other platforms will only get a digital release.

Signature edition

Signature Edition

In addition to the extras offered by the aforementioned retail package, this edition also includes a 6.5″ figurine of Beck and Keiji Inafune’s foil signature. The official PlayStation blog has noted that the quantities of the CE are “extremely limited.” At the time of writing, the Signature Edition appears to be sold out on Amazon, and there are a few copies already listed on eBay.

Gameplay trailer

As expected of a challenging retro-style action game, Mighty No. 9 runs at 60 FPS to ensure smooth gameplay.

After being delayed again, Mighty No. 9 is now scheduled for a June 21st, 2016 release. The game will launch on all platforms except handhelds simultaneously; 3DS and Vita owners will have to wait longer for Mighty No. 9 to be ported.
