Dragon Ball FighterZ is a 2.5D fighting game developed by Japanese company Arc System Works and published by Bandai Namco for current-gen consoles and Windows PCs. The game uses a 3v3 format, with players selecting three characters from the wildly popular Dragon Ball franchise to form a team. The characters can tag in and out of combat at any time, and call for assists to perform combos with the entire team.
As expected of a competitive fighting game, Dragon Ball FighterZ runs in 1080p at 60 FPS, save for the action cutscenes where it intentionally drops the framerate to achieve an anime-like look.
All Dragon Ball FighterZ pre-orders will get to unlock SSGSS Goku and SSGSS Vegeta immediately, and receive two exclusive lobby avatars and three stamps. Furthermore, they will get access to the open beta one day early (Jan 13). There are also two additional retailer-exclusive bonuses.
Pre-ordering via GameStop nets you an exclusive 3″ tall Super Saiyan Blue Goku figure depicted below:
On the other hand, if you pre-order via Best Buy you’ll receive this 3 3/4″ tall Future Trunks figurine from Dragon Ball Super by Funko Pop! Animation:
The digital FighterZ Edition ($95) bundles the base game with the FighterZ Pass ($35 if purchased separately), which adds 8 DLC characters each with their respective stamp, lobby avatar, and alternative colors. The boxed version of this edition is exclusive to GameStop.
This digital edition costs $110 and features the aforementioned FighterZ Pass, plus the Anime Music Pack with 11 songs from the show, and the Commentator Voice Pack.
The CollectorZ Edition retails for $140 and includes the following extras, as per Bandai Namco’s announcement:
- 7″ Goku Statue: a detailed diorama of Son Goku in his trademark pose, with a one-of-a-kind airbrushed paint job that gives the statue a “jumping off the pages of the manga” look.
- Three Art Cards: a set of high quality, hard covered, gold foil embossed cards that depict several fighters from the game.
- Exclusive Steelbook: a steel-brushed metal case with exclusive art from the game, to keep your copy of Dragon Ball FighterZ safe.
- Collectorz Box: a giant case to contain all of the goodies listed above.
Dragon Ball FighterZ is scheduled to be released on January 26, 2018. Before that, there will be closed beta starting September 16; Xbox One players may enter through the Xbox Insider program, while PS4 players can sign up at Bandai Namco’s website.
