RAGE is an upcoming post-apocalyptic game developed by id Software and published by Bethesda. It is going to be primarily a first-person shooter, but it will also have some extreme dune buggy racing thrown into the mix.
The players will be able to upgrade their vehicles using the money won from races – and these upgrades are going to offer not only more durability and speed, but some serious firepower in the form of chaingun and rocket launcher turrets, too. Likewise, it will be possible to upgrade your own weapons with things like clip extenders and aim stabilizers.
L.A. Noire is a highly anticipated action-adventure game from the devs of Team Bondi and Rockstar that will be released for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 consoles in May this year.
The game will put you in the shoes of Cole Phelps, an aspiring detective working for the LAPD in the post-war Los Angeles during the 1940s. Violent crimes and drug trafficking are on the rise, mafia controls the city underground, and even the government officials are corrupt. The young detective will definitely have his work cut out for him.
The gameplay of L.A. Noire will involve solving cases of varying difficulty. The players will have some freedom in how they want to go about doing that: investigate the crime scene, interview (or interrogate) people, and so on. There will be different routes available for most cases, and false evidence to boot. Unlike GTA though, it’s not going to be an open-world sandbox, but rather a story-driven game.
inFAMOUS 2, the open-world action game from Sucker Punch, is probably one of the most anticipated PS3 releases this year. The sequel will take you to the city of New Marais where you will have to grow stronger and eventually face a terrifying enemy which was foreshadowed in the first game – the Beast.
Other factions will get in the way of the protagonist Cole MacGrath as well, namely the monstrous mutants called the Corrupted, and Militia, a radical organization which seeks to destroy all abnormal entities including the Conduits.
inFAMOUS 2 will have a number of new features and improvements, such as better cutscenes, more destructible objects, many new powers for Cole (including fire and ice ones) and so on. Like in the original game, your karma choices will affect Cole’s appearance and powers, as well as the route and the ending of inFAMOUS 2.
User-generated content deserves a separate mention. inFAMOUS 2 will allow its players to create their own missions and share them with others. inFAMOUS was already a great sandbox game, but this adds a whole new element to it, with a potential for endless fun and freedom.

The ever-popular Battlefield series of first-person shooters will see a new addition this year. Titled Battlefield 3, the game will use a next-generation engine called Frostbite 2, which takes full advantage of DX11 and 64-bit CPUs. The new engine is said to deliver improved dynamic lighting, destructible environments and highly realistic character animations.
BF3 will re-introduce fighter jets and the prone position which was absent from Bad Company. The multiplayer mode is going to feature a kill cam similar to that in Call of Duty games. Battlefield 3 will support up to 64 players per server on the PC, but only 24 on consoles due to hardware limitations. Multiplayer is, of course, the main focus of Battlefield games, but BF3 will still have a single-player campaign, which is going to take place in year 2014.

Brink is a new first-person shooter under development by Splash Damage, the British game studio that brought us Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. It will feature class-based single player, co-op and multiplayer modes, which will be integrated seamlessly. For example, experience can be earned both in single player and multiplayer, and your friends can join your game even in the middle of a mission.
Brink is set in a post-apocalyptic world, with two factions (Resistance and Security) fighting for control over a floating city called the Ark. The city can’t support a growing population due to the limited resources available, so the Ark is on the brink of a civil war.
The game will allow the players to perform various freerunning moves using a single SMART (Smooth Movement Across Random Terrain) button which predicts what you’re trying to do depending on your position. As a result, complex moves can be executed with simple controls, similarly to Mirror’s Edge. However, experienced players will be able to accomplish the same thing manually, which will take less time and give them an edge over the others.
Epic Games is currently working on the third (and final) part of the Gears of War trilogy, which is scheduled for a September 2011 release. The upcoming Gears of War 3 will introduce a four-player co-op campaign, new playable characters (including three female ones), and new weapons. Furthermore, a Silverback mech suit armed with a rocket launcher and a machinegun will be available in certain parts of the game.
If that got you excited, just wait till you hear about the additional Locust and Lambent enemy types, as well as new executions you can finish them off with – such as the Bayonet Charge. There will be new multiplayer modes as well, like the Beast mode: a reverse Horde mode where you and up to four other players fight as Locusts against waves of COGs.
Gears of War 3 will take place one-and-a-half years after the end of the second game. Cliff Bleszinski, the design director at Epic Games, has said that GoW3 will “answer the majority of the questions that players have about the history of the world and what’s going on” and “be the conclusion to a trilogy”.
