While there won’t be a mainline WWE 2K installment in 2020, the company is instead releasing WWE 2K Battlegrounds: an arcade-focused wrestling experience with over-the-top action set to the background of outlandish environments.
The game’s modes include Exhibition matches (with online and local multiplayer), a solo Campaign whose story is told through original comic strips, the last-man-standing mode King of the Battleground, and Online tournaments. Over 70 wrestlers are included at launch and more will be available as DLC, one of them as a pre-order bonus.
Pre-order WWE 2K Battlegrounds to receive the Edge Totally Awesome Pre-Order Pack and unlock WWE Hall of Famer, Edge.
The standard edition of the game costs $39.99, and there is also a special digital edition outlined below.
Digital Deluxe Edition ($49.99)
Carrying a $10 price premium over the standard edition, the digital Deluxe Edition includes the following extras:
- Digital Deluxe Bonus Pack: raise some hell with Stone Cold Steve Austin, lay the SmackDown with the Attitude Era version of The Rock, and get rowdy with Ronda Rousey. Includes three versions of each Superstar.
- Currency Pack: 1100 Golden Bucks used to unlock additional Superstars and vanity items.
- Edge Totally Awesome Pre-Order Pack: WWE 2K Battlegrounds will reek of awesomeness with WWE Hall of Famer Edge, included in the Digital Deluxe Edition.
WWE 2K Battlegrounds is making its way to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Stadia, and PC via Steam on September 18, 2020.
