Rise of the Tomb Raider is a sequel to the 2013 reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix. The game has protagonist Lara Croft traveling to remote and dangerous locations like Syria or Syberia in an attempt to uncover ancient secrets.

As expected of a title featuring Lara’s first actual tomb raiding expedition, it includes more exploration and puzzles than its predecessor. The combat system is also improved with the addition of non-lethal takedowns, multiple weapons of different types, better stealth mechanics, and item crafting.

Fallout 4 is an upcoming action RPG developed and published by Bethesda. The game takes place in the post-apocalyptic Boston, two hundred years after the Great War. Unlike its predecessors, this fifth major installment in the series uses a new graphics engine (modified Skyrim’s Creation Engine), bringing visual improvements and 1080p gameplay on the current-gen consoles.

While the gameplay mechanics remain similar to those of FO3, there are many new features like a fully-voiced protagonist, base building, more complex crafting, and a split-piece armor. The S.P.E.C.I.A.L. character system is also overhauled, resulting in significantly faster leveling and better-balanced perks, according to the devs.

Street Fighter V is the fifth main installment in Capcom’s massively popular fighting game franchise. It is powered by Unreal Engine 4 and features cross-platform play between PC and PlayStation 4. The game will offer 16 characters (including four new ones) at launch, with more to be added later. Six additional characters should be available within a year after launch, unlockable using in-game currency.

The upcoming title also has some new gameplay mechanics, such as V-Skills which replace the Focus Attacks from SF4. Using those as well as taking damage will fill the new V-Gauge, which can then be used to perform V-Reversals (counterattacks while blocking) or V-Triggers (special moves or power-ups unique to each fighter).

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is a tactical shooter by Ubisoft which pits two teams of five against each other in various multiplayer modes. Players can choose from a number of classes – or Operators, as the game calls them – which are divided into defensive and offensive types, and have different skillsets.

Rainbow 6 Siege emphasizes teamwork and features procedural destruction, an important element of the gameplay. Attackers can utilize devices like breach charges or the hammer wielded by the Sledge class to destroy walls and open up new paths to their target, whereas the defending side can use barricades and barbed wire to delay or ambush the enemy.

The game also has single-player as well as co-op modes, including the fan-favorite, wave-based TerroHunt. The enemy this time is a new mysterious organization known as the White Masks.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is a 1080p remaster of the original game from nearly a decade ago which includes five campaign chapters never released on Xbox, modernized multiplayer running at 60 FPS (campaign is still 30 FPS), a total of 19 maps, updated controls tuned for Xbox One, and new Xbox Live achievements. There also are five Gears of War comic books which can be unlocked and read in-game.

Perhaps most impressively, all Xbox One versions of GoW: UE (Standard, Deluxe, or Bundle) come with free access to the whole Gears collection via Xbox One Backward Compatibility, which is set to launch in full this November. All you have to do is play the Ultimate Edition on Xbox Live any time from August 25 to December 31, 2015, according to Xbox Wire. In addition, buying the game grants the owner access to the Gears of War 4 Beta when it launches in 2016.

NHL 16 is the next installment in EA’s highly popular hockey video game franchise. Developed for the current-gen consoles, the game will also be released for the Xbox 360 and PS3 as NHL: Legacy Edition.

After the poorly-received NHL 15, the developers are making numerous changes to the upcoming title, such as bringing back the fan-favorite EA Sports Hockey League (EASHL) mode and online-enabled couch co-op. Other notable features include more precise goalie controls, new player morale mechanic in Be a GM, and various visual improvements for added authenticity.

Forza Motorsport 6 is an upcoming Xbox One exclusive racing sim developed by Turn 10 Studios and published by Microsoft. Compared to its predecessors, the game boasts improved graphics, audio, AI, and physics. The latter is said to be particularly impressive, with Forza 6 featuring accurately simulated rain and puddles, as well as all the hazards associated with racing in wet weather such as hydroplaning.

The ambitious game includes more than 450 cars and 26 tracks, ten of which are new to the franchise. The story mode offers 70 hours of content, and multiplayer allows for races with up to 24 cars. Forza Motorsport 6 also includes nighttime driving for the first time in the series.
