Gears 5 is an upcoming installment in the Gears of War shooter franchise developed by The Coalition. As an Xbox Play Anywhere title, the same digital copy can be played on Xbox One consoles and Windows 10 PCs. The game will be included in the Xbox Game Pass library at launch. There is no season pass, and all new maps added post-launch will be available for free.

The protagonist of Gears 5 is Kait Diaz, an Outsider turned Gear who is tormented by visions of the Swarm and goes AWOL in search for answers. Remnant: From the Ashes is a third-person survival co-op shooter developed by Gunfire Games (best known for Darksiders III). The game is set in a post-apocalyptic Earth ravaged by an ancient interdimensional evil known as the Root. Humanity’s only hope is the technology to open portals to other worlds, allowing them to scavenge for resources and carve out new footholds as they seek to defeat the Root.

These alternate worlds feature unique biomes and are generated dynamically, resulting in new maps, encounters, quests, and world events each time. The game offers gear and weapon crafting, character progression, and epic boss fights. Wolfenstein: Youngblood is a co-op shooter developed by MachineGames in conjunction with Arkane Studios, and published by Bethesda. It can be played solo or by two players each taking control of one of the protagonists.

Timeline-wise, the game is set between Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and the future third and final installment of the trilogy, taking place nineteen years after the events of the former. It serves as a side-story featuring the Blazkowicz sisters, who set out to Nazi-controlled Paris in search of their missing-in-action father.

Hell Let Loose is a WW2 multiplayer shooter developed by independent studio Black Matter that aims to deliver realistic, platoon-based combat with giant 50-vs-50 battles over a dynamically shifting front line.

The game boasts player-controlled vehicles, huge maps divided into sectors that generate resources when captured, a dozen playable roles divided into infantry, recon, and armor unit types, as well as authentic gear and equipment.

RAGE 2 is an open-world shooter set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland brought on by an asteroid collision which annihilated 80% of Earth’s population. Co-developed by id Software and Avalanche Studios, the game utilizes the latter’s proprietary Avalanche engine to bring its dystopian world to life.

Left Alive is a third-person shooter from Square Enix whose development team boasts industry veterans who worked on Metal Gear and Armored Core series. Set in year 2127, it tells the story of three different characters struggling to survive the Garmoniyan invasion of Novo Slava.

The game drops the player into a city turned a burning war zone and swarming with enemy troops, armored vehicles, and towering mechs. Most of Left Alive is played on foot, but there is also giant mech combat toward the latter part of the single-player campaign.

Anthem is a sci-fi themed cooperative action RPG developed by BioWare and published by EA. It is set in a world left unfinished by gods, and thus teeming with colossal beasts, otherworldly artifacts, vast ruins, and monsters corrupted by the titular Anthem – the source of all creation.

Mankind’s hopes of survival in this savage place hinge on Freelancers: pilots of powerful and highly-customizable Javelin exosuits, which enable humans to explore the frontier and engage fearsome enemies as equals.

Storyline aside, Anthem functions as an always-online multiplayer game where up to four players can play together in a contiguous open world. The Javelins may be upgraded and customized visually to reflect the player’s achievements. EA has confirmed that Anthem only features coop and not PvP – at least at launch.

Metro Exodus is a first-person shooter developed by Ukrainian studio 4A Games and published by Deep Silver. Set in a post-apocalyptic Earth devastated by a nuclear war, it continues the story of Artyom, who leaves the Moscow’s metro and travels east aboard an armored steam locomotive, Aurora, in search of a new life. During the journey through the wasteland, the Aurora acts as a mobile station, and will be constantly modified with new cars as the survivors aboard fend off sinister foes and recruit new allies.

Far Cry: New Dawn is an open-world first-person shooter from Ubisoft. It is a spin-off of the main Far Cry series, and a sequel to Far Cry 5. Set 17 years after the events in the latter, it takes place in a post-apocalyptic version of Hope County that is recovering from a nuclear catastrophe.

The player starts as a new, customizable character, exploring and scavenging and crafting their way through the game’s world, and defending the Survivor faction against the marauding Highwaymen led by twin sisters Mickey and Lou. Battlefield 5 is an upcoming first-person shooter developed and published by EA. Set during World War II, it focuses heavily on squad-based gameplay, scarcity of resources, and extensive player character customization.

The game introduces several new multiplayer modes. One of these is Grand Operations, a tweaked version of Operations seen in Battlefield 1. Based on real historical battles, it is a multimatch mode which spans four days, with the player’s performance during the first mission affecting the resources received at the start of the next one. Fallout 76 is a multiplayer survival game set in West Virginia in year 2102, well before the events in the previous installments. It centers around Vault 76, the inhabitants of which are tasked with rebuilding society a quarter-century after the nuclear apocalypse.

The game is fully online, with a dozen or so players gathering resources and building bases in a shared world that is said to be four times larger than that of Fallout 4. It is possible to work at surviving alone, or in a party with up to four friends. If cooperation ain’t your thing, it is possible to collect launch codes and nuke other players’ bases. Progress isn’t lost upon death, however, and the characters can be freely transferred between servers.

Overkill’s The Walking Dead is a four-player co-op shooter developed by Starbreeze-owned Overkill Software and published by 505 Games. Set in a post-apocalyptic Washington D.C., the game centers around characters Aidan, Heather, Maya and Grant, each of whom has their own skill tree, squad role, play style, and background story. Taking role of one of the four, the players will have to work as a team to survive as they fend off the dead – as well as the living.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is a multiplayer shooter developed by Treyarch and published by Activision. Time-wise, the upcoming game is set between Black Ops II and III; it ditches the advanced movement mechanics from BO3, but retains the Specialists feature. There is eight of them in total, each with their own unique equipment and ability, and further customizable through the returning Pick 10 system.

Black Ops IIII comes with the usual competitive multiplayer modes, including a new one called “control”, as well as the fan-favorite cooperative Zombies mode with three distinct locations. There is also Blackout: a brand new battle royale mode, which pits players against each other on the largest map ever seen in the series, and includes pilotable vehicles and classic weapons from the entire Black Ops franchise.

While the game lacks a single-player campaign, it wouldn’t be accurate to say that there is no solo content. According to the developers, there are individual single-player missions which serve as challenges and provide some backstory on each of the Specialists.

Destiny 2: Forsaken is a standalone expansion for Bungie’s online shooter. The story takes the player to investigate a recent unrest in the Reef alongside Cayde-6, where they discover that some of the most wanted criminals have staged an escape from the Prison of Elders. There are new regions to explore, and long-lost Awoken secrets to uncover.

Forsaken makes a number of changes to Destiny 2. Among these is a new competitive 4v4 mode Gambit, a new Dreaming City Raid, as well as additional Strikes , story missions, powers, weapons, and gear, including a new weapon archetype the Legendary Bow.

Strange Brigade is a cooperative third-person shooter for one to four players developed by British studio Rebellion. The game is set in 1930s Egypt, where Seteki the Witch Queen has risen after being buried in a nameless tomb for 4,000 years. It is up to the fearless explorers of the titular Strange Brigade to fight off her armies of mummified monstrosities – and perhaps snag some ancient treasures while at it.

Each of the four playable characters comes with their own weapons, abilities, and even magic amulets which are charged by defeating enemies. Players have to work as a team to survive and accomplish objectives.

The fifth main installment in Ubisoft’s Far Cry franchise takes place in a fictional Hope County in modern-day Montana. Players take on the role of a local sheriff’s deputy, and fight a radical doomsday cult known as Eden’s Gate, which is led by the charismatic Joseph Seed.

Far Cry 5 features all the series’ staples, such as open world, various vehicles, customizable weapons, and gadgets. The game also borrows the “Fang for Hire” system from Far Cry Primal, allowing the player to tame wild animals to assist them in battle. Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet is a JRPG and third-person shooter based on the popular anime and light novel series by Reki Kawahara. The game takes place in Gun Gale Online, a fictional VRMMO in which a player named Death Gun has started killing people in real life.

Unlike in the previous Sword Art Online games, the protagonist of Fatal Bullet is a custom character. The players have the option of going through the story solo or making a party of up to four members with customizable AI. There is also online multiplayer with co-op and competitive 4v4 modes.
